Future Developments in the South West
Preliminary studies have been carried out to map the potential areas for future offshore energy development around South West England are available below.
These show that there is considerable potential for commercial generation of power. These are not definitive maps as much will depend upon the suitability and viability of different technologies to operate in these areas and the need for a full understanding of the environmental, social and economic impacts.
Nevertheless these studies provide a useful indication of the areas that could be suitable for development and as technologies start to mature there will be a need for The Crown Estate to initiate a process to allocate areas of seabed for development.
