Wave Resource and Metocean Data
The Wave Hub site is within one of Europe’s best wave climates and the project has been collecting wave data since 2005 thanks to the support of the nPower Juice Fund.
There are gaps in the data due to loss or failure of equipment but data sets can be downloaded below:
- 30 January 2005 to 10 April 2006
- April 2007
- 20 February 2008 to 8 March 2008
- 26 November 2008 to 21 March 2009
- 1 July 2009 to 10 August 2009
- 10 August 2009 to 27 January 2010
The Assessment of Wave & Current Resource at the Wave Hub Site report is available by contacting enquiries@wavehub.co.uk
The following studies have analysed the power available at the site:
- July 2006 Halcrow Group – Analysis of wave power at Wave Hub site
- June 2006 Halcrow Group – Comparison of recorded wave data and Met Office data
- November 2006 – Applied Wave Research Review of wave measurement technology
- November 2006 – Applied Wave Research Review of Wave Power Climate
Water depths across the Wave Hub site are generally between 50 and 60 metres and the seabed is mostly bare rock with pockets of sediment.
Information on surface and sea bed currents, wind speeds and other conditions at the site is available:
