Marine Renewables Research & Education

Research for Wave Energy Devices Much is known about marine renewable energy but further knowledge needs to be gained and this requires research activity for many years to come.

Wave Hub represents an ideal opportunity to carry out detailed research in a number of key areas ranging from resource characterisation to environmental and biodiversity impacts.

The existence of several years of baseline environmental date for the Wave Hub site will allow the impacts if different types of device to be measured over an extended period of time, and this will enable methods to be developed for predicting the impacts of larger scale marine energy projects.

Wave Hub has a close working relationship with the Peninsular Research Institute for Marine Renewable Energy (PRIMaRE) and the institute’s scientists will use the Wave Hub site to gather data to answer some of the fundamental questions that could otherwise delay the development of the industry.
