The company has signed a contract with Wave Hub Ltd to enable this project to progress, according to a press release.
Simply Blue intends to use 200 generators supplied by Swedish sector firm Seabased Industry AB. Just recently the latter announced it has deployed 36 of its wave energy convertors (WECs) as part of the first phase of the 10-MW Sotenaes demonstration project on the west coast of Sweden.
The Irish company was set up in 2011 and this would be its first project, scheduled for completion in early 2017. The wave power park will cost around GBP 45 million (USD 66.4m/EUR 61.8m) to build and Simply Blue will provide some 15% of the needed cash, the Irish Independent said. A mix of Swedish state backing and UK government grants will help cover the rest, according to the report.
