The development of offshore marine renewables is a cornerstone of the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership's Economic Plan for the region and a priority development area for Cornwall Council. Working together they are creating an environment where technology developers can flourish.
Cornwall can support the development pathway for technology innovators from university research facilities to bursery test sites to large scale grid connected demonstration sites.
Cornwall can strengthen links with the broader UK innovation landscape, and ensure the sector as a whole learns more efficiently, collaborates to leverage funding and cements the UK's position as world leader in marine renewable energy.
As well as access to funding there are also a number of networks providing support to the marine renewables sector including the Cornwall Marine Network, Marine Offshore Renewables (MOR) group,, South West Marine Energy Park (SWMEP), Invest in Cornwall and The Growth Hub.
The region also has major research capabilities including the Partnership for Research in Marine Renewable Energy (PRIMaRE), which is a collaboration of world-class research institutions based in the west, south and south west of England who undertake research and development to address challenges facing the marine renewable energy industry at the regional, national and international level.
The Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership (C&IoS LEP), Cornwall Council and the Council of the Isles of Scilly's Marine Renewable Energy (MRE) Roadmap sets out how the public and private sector can work together to deliver the next steps towards the commercialisation of offshore and marine energy generation solutions and supporting technologies over the next 10 years.
